How Mounjaro works

Treatment built around your biology.

Tirzepatide, the active ingredient in Mounjaro, mimics two gut hormones, glucagon-like peptide (GLP-1) and glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide (GIP). Working together they slow down digestion, reduce appetite and help you feel fuller for longer.

  • Weekly injection using a pre-filled pen.
  • A low starting dose is gradually increased by your clinician as your body adjusts.
  • Personalised guidance on how to eat, move and sleep for treatment optimisation.

The evidence

Evidence-based. Data driven. Honest outcome.

Your curated journey is built around evidence-based outcomes. Honesty and authenticity at every step.

Dosing

Built up gradually, reviewed at every step.

Mounjaro is built up gradually, a process called titration. Starting low and stepping up roughly every four weeks gives your body time to adjust and keeps side effects manageable.

Starting doseWeeks 1 to 4

2.5 mg

Every journey starts here. This dose is about letting your body get used to the medication, not maximum effect. Many people already notice quieter appetite within the first weeks.

Not everyone needs the highest dose. Your clinician reviews how you respond at every step and can hold, raise, or lower the dose whenever that is the right call for you.

What’s included

Inside your course of care.

Your course of care is built on your health profile. Medication prescribed around your biology. Regular clinician check-ins. Ongoing support, with treatment adjusted as your body responds.

GLP-1 works by slowing down digestion, reducing your appetite and helping you feel fuller for longer. Quietens food noise. Prescribed if suitable.

Eligibility

Is treatment suitable for me?

Prescribing weight-loss treatment starts with your body mass index (BMI). This is about safety, not judgement. It gives you an idea whether GLP-1 medication is suitable before taking an online consultation.

Height178 cm
Weight92 kg

Your BMI is a screening estimate for eligibility, not a diagnosis. Once you have completed your online consultation, a clinician will review your health profile. This will determine whether treatment is right for you.

Based on the 21% average body-weight reduction over 72 weeks in tirzepatide trials (Jastreboff et al., NEJM 2022). Individual results vary.

You may be eligible

Treatment can be appropriate at this BMI if you also have a weight-related health condition. A clinician reviews your full picture before deciding.

How it works in the body

Two hormones, one weekly dose.

Tirzepatide is the first dual agonist: it mimics two of your body's own appetite hormones at once. Select a step to see what it does, where.

GLP-1 + GIP

Mechanism per the Mounjaro SmPC. Tirzepatide acts on glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) and glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide (GIP) receptors.

What to expect

What to expect, month by month.

Weight loss medication is not an overnight switch. Knowing what each phase feels like makes it much easier to stay the course, so here is the honest version.

The appetite dial turns down

After your first injection, many people notice food noise quietening within days. Portions shrink naturally because fullness arrives sooner. Mild nausea can appear as your body adjusts; eating smaller, slower meals helps.

How to use it

Easier than you think.

Mounjaro comes as a pre-filled pen you inject once a week, on the same day each week, with or without food. Most people find it far easier than they expected.

Where to inject

The most common choice. Inject into the soft area at least 5 cm (2 inches) away from your belly button.

Rotate the site each week to keep skin happy. Missed a dose? Take it within four days, otherwise skip it and carry on with your normal schedule.

How do I know if I'm eligible for Mounjaro?

Eligibility is based on your assessment, including measurements, health history and goals. A UK-registered clinician makes the final decision. There's no charge to find out, and you're never pressured to proceed.

How is it taken?

Mounjaro is a once-weekly injection using a simple pre-filled pen. Your plan includes clear guidance on how and when to use it, and your dose is stepped up gradually under review.

What are the common side effects?

Most people tolerate tirzepatide well. Mild gastrointestinal effects, such as nausea, reduced appetite and occasional reflux, are common in the first four weeks and usually ease. If symptoms are severe or persist, contact your clinician. For severe abdominal pain radiating to the back, stop and seek urgent medical advice.

Can a clinician change my dose?

Yes. Dose and titration are reviewed against how you feel and respond. If a change is appropriate, your clinician issues an updated plan at your next review.

Can I pause or stop?

You're in control. You can pause or stop any time from your account, and your clinician will advise on doing so safely.
