The active ingredient in Wegovy (semaglutide) mimics the gut hormone GLP-1. Here’s how it works:
GLP-1 is the hormone released after eating. Wegovy activates the GLP-1 receptor, slowing down stomach emptying to help you feel fuller for longer. It also boosts insulin release to regulate blood sugar levels, and the brain is cleverly alerted to reduce appetite and limit cravings.
This makes Wegovy a highly effective weight-loss medication. Use alongside your curated treatment pathway for lasting change.
Dose and frequency
Using Wegovy is simple. Your injection pen is pre-filled with four doses, taken once a week (on the same day), using a new needle each time. To help your body adjust to the medication, we start with a low dose which gradually increases over time until you reach your maximum amount. It’s different for everyone, and your clinician will work with you to find your sweet spot. This method reduces potential side effects and increases effectiveness for lasting results.
Where to inject
Wegovy is injected into fatty tissue (not your vein). Choose the area most comfortable for you:
Stomach - At least 2 inches/5cm (no closer) away from your belly button. Many choose this as it’s easy to reach.
Either thigh - The front upper part, avoiding your inner thigh.
Upper arm: The back, outer area. This is tricky to reach, so you may need someone to help you.
Rotate the exact spot each week to avoid irritation. Avoid bruised, tender, sore or sunburnt skin, as well as scar tissue, moles, birthmarks, tattoos and varicose veins.

Wegovy has been extensively studied and is licensed in the UK for effective weight management in adults. It is approved by NICE (the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence) and is one of the most clinically researched weight-loss medications available.
As with all medications, it isn't suitable for everyone — which is why every Curate prescription follows a thorough clinical assessment. The most commonly reported side effects are gastrointestinal — including nausea and digestive discomfort — and tend to settle as your body adjusts. Your clinician will review your full health history before prescribing and will support you throughout your treatment.
Most people begin to notice a difference in appetite and food cravings within the first few weeks of starting Wegovy. Weight-loss changes typically become visible between four and eight weeks, with more significant results building over three to six months.
Wegovy is introduced gradually — starting at a lower dose and increasing over sixteen to twenty weeks — to allow your body to adjust and minimise side effects. The results build with consistency over time, and your clinician will support you through every stage of that process.
Both are clinically proven weight-loss medications that are injected weekly. But they work differently. Wegovy contains semaglutide, which mimics the single hormone glucagon-like peptide (GLP-1) to reduce cravings and help you feel fuller for longer. Mounjaro contains tirzepatide, which targets the two hormones GLP-1 and glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide (GIP) simultaneously to slow digestion, reduce appetite and help you feel fuller for longer.
Individual results vary with both medications. The right choice depends on your health history, your body and your goals. And that’s what we’re here for. Your clinician will assess this during your consultation to find the most effective medication for you.
